Though he can’t recall auditioning for a film since the 1980s, Denzel Washington has given us plenty of awing movies in the last two decades. Rumor is he’s done it again with a Swedish director, producing “Safe House”.

This go around Washington is playing a CIA operative by the name of Tobin Frost. After surrendering himself at an American Embassy in Cape Town, he’s taken to a safe house in South Africa. Eventually the house is compromised, threatening the death of Washington and his caretaker.

From the looks of it, ”Safe House” seems to be a manic, roller coaster thriller that’ll keep the audience on the edge of their seats. With his impeccable acting skills, we’re sure he’ll keep everything under control — in typical Denzel nature.

Go check it out and let us know what you think!

Being in the public eye can be seen as both a blessing and a curse. How does one react though when ‘the public’ is your employer? Journalist Roland Martin found on super bowl Sunday.

Just three days after the 45th NFL super bowl, February 8, 2012, CNN suspended Martin for a tweet that by many was seen as a shot at homosexuals. From his twitter account the analyst and tv personality tweeted, “If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him,” followed by the super bowl hashtag. Prior to that Martin tweeted that no “real bruhs” would buy the soccer player’s H&M line of underwear. He also wrote of a New England Patriots player who arrived wearing a pink outfit. According to Martin he deserved a visit from “team whip dat ass”.

Though CNN thought the statements to be “inconsistent with the values and culture of their organization,” Martin said they were in no way intended for bullying. On his website rolandsmartin.com this is what he had to say:

“….I have been accused by members of the LGBT community of being supportive of violence against gays and lesbians and bullying. That is furthest from the truth, and I sincerely regret any offense my words have caused.”

“My joking about smacking someone…was stated in jest. It was not meant literally, and in no way would I ever condone someone doing such a thing. …To those who construed my comment as being anti-gay or homophobic or advancing violence, I’m truly sorry. I can certainly understand how someone could come to a different conclusion than the one I meant,” he continued.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) spoke out against Martin and arranged to meet with him.

Some say that this suspension reveals an inconsistency on CNN’s part, who has fired and suspended some who have have made “offensive” comments while allowing others to stay on board. Will Martin remain suspended indefinitely? Should he?

Many believe that Bishop Eddie Long should be tired of apologizing for his actions. This past Saturday, however, he took another stab at expressing his remorse — this time to the Jewish community.

In a video that has gotten plenty of attention, the bishop was seen being wrapped in a sacred Jewish scroll, carried around the church, and declared a king.

“While I believe that Rabbi Ralph Messer has good intentions during his message at New Birth, I understand that the ceremony he performed on Sunday, January 29th, caused harm to the Jewish community, for which I am deeply sorry,” Long wrote in a letter to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

Bill Nigut, southeast regional director of ADL, acknowedged Long’s apology by Sunday.

I thought it was a very heartfelt, sincere, humble apology. I was very gratified by Bishop Long apparently recognizing what our concern was,” Nigut said according to CNN.

The Jewish community may have been offended, but the rabbi who performed the ceremony believes his intent has been misconstrued. “I was invited there to teach the Hebrew roots in the Christian faith to New Birth and their community at large. When we went there we had two goals: to encourage a community that had been extremely discouraged…..our goal and our vision….was to restore, lift and encourage a man,” said Rabbi Messer in a video response to all the commotion.

“It was simply a way of bringing honor to a man who had given his life to the Lord and had given so much to his church, the Atlanta metro area and throughout the world,” he continued.

Unlike his counterpart, Long opted not to make any further explanations and denounced his kingship altogether.

“The ceremony was not my suggestion, nor was it my intent, to participate in any ritual that is offensive in any manner to the Jewish community, or any group. Furthermore, I sincerely denounce any action that depicts me as a King, for I am merely just a servant of the Lord,” said Long.

Though he was known vastly for his charges of molestation in 2011, Bishop Eddie Long now has a few new prefixes to add to his name. Among them is king.

Deeming it a different season, Rabbi Ralph Messer performed a ceremony last Sunday at Long’s church in Lithonia, Georgia. The elaborate ceremony is supposedly reserved for kings; to declare their kingship and righteousness.

Before Long was brought out into the pulpit, the rabbi explained the significance of a 312 year old scroll. “90 percent of jews in the world have never even seen, came close to, or touched a scroll…”, Rabbi Messer told the New Birth congregation.

Symbolic of hiding him within the scripture, Long was wrapped in the Jewish scroll, covered in a prayer shawl, and given the belt of righteousness. “He’s a king. God’s blessed him. He’s a humble man. But in him is kingship. In him is royalty. In him was a land of Israel,” the rabbi continued.

Long then sat in a throne-like chair, and was lifted by four members of the congregation and carried around stage while holding the scroll.

“I give this to you as a sign of covenant, as a sign of relief, as a sign of my love for you,” said Messer. “He is now raised up from a commoner to a king.”

The rabbi also called Long a “prophet of Atlanta.”

Though recorded at last Sunday’s service, the video creating all the buzz did not air on the web until Wednesday. Some theologians and religious leaders are calling the act “inappropriate” and “repulsive”.

What are your thoughts on Bishop Eddie Long’s new title?

Blogs, discussion boards, and social media sites went crazy over the news of multi-platinum recording artist Beyoncé being pregnant. Perhaps what the masses may not have anticipated though, was Oprah Winfrey being the godmother of the newest addition to the Carter family.

Blue Ivy Carter was born on January 7 in New York City. Gayle King, best friend of Oprah Winfrey, said that the rumor isn’t true. When asked by Us Weekly, a representative from Beyoncé’s camp chose not to comment, but King cleared the air. “It’s absolutely not true that she’s the godmother,” King explained.

“She’s friends with them, of course, and likes them both very much. She’s working on sending them a baby gift. She hasn’t even had time to send a baby gift because she’s been away,” King said on CBS’ Early Show.

According to her BFF, Oprah was in route to South Africa when Blue was born.

It is also alleged that the power couple have asked Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith — Jay-Z’s best friend — to be the godfather.

Gwyneth Paltrow, however was one of the first to tweet about the new Carter. Will we be hearing news that she is in fact the godmother? Kelly Rowland? Tell us what you think!

A statement of priorities, President Obama gave his third state of the union address on January 24,2012. Encouraging unity among the nation and more specifically amongst the parties, he spent the majority of the hour highlighting the commonalities of citizens and congressmen and women alike.

Obama shifted the weight of importance toward the economy, economic fairness, and education. His words, however, opened him up to the criticisms of Republicans seeking their party’s nomination. Elected to respond on behalf of the republicans was Indiana governor Mitch Daniels.” The Republicans, have passed bills to reduce borrowing, reform entitlements, and encourage new job creation, only to be shot down nearly time again by the president and his Democrat Senate allies,” he said. Obama-supporters, and citizens journalists lambasted Daniels for accusing Obama for sewing the dissension between the working class and the elite. Contrarily, Obama emphasized the defining issue of the present time is how to keep the promise of America alive. “What’s at stake are not Democratic values or Republican values, but American values. We have to reclaim them,” said the President.

What did you think of President Obama’s address? What do you think is the state of the union? Drop us a line!

On Wednesday, January 18, 2012, over 7,000 websites went on a protest against SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act) that are in the process of being either passed or rejected by Congress. Websites such as Wikipedia and Google lead this protest by either having a “black-out”, where they shut their site down for 24 hours, or posted information to educate its visitors and even going as far as to post an interactive petition on their sites for their visitors to contact their local Councilmen. Many who are in opposition of this act feel that by passing this bill, this gives the government full control in censorship of the web. Those are for this act feel the intentions are good, seeing as how they would like to protect copyrighted material and intellectual property so that the individuals or entities who produced such items, receive full payment for their work. If this bill is passed, many popular sites, such as blogging sites, may be subject to being permanently shut down. Can you imagine a world (of this day and age) where your favorite websites are taken down because of this legislation; where a simple thing as posting a picture without the original photographer’s consent may land you in jail or result in you paying a fine? Although the intentions of these bills seem to be of good intentions, on the surface, can the government take such immense control and censor the entire internet? Is it even possible to control such an entity? Your thoughts.

Joe Frazier, 67, the former heavyweight boxing champion lost his fight with liver cancer on November 7, 2011. He is most infamous for his fiery rivalry with boxer Muhammad Ali. At Madison Square Garden in March 1971, he was the first man to beat Ali. After losing to Ali the second time around, and George Forman shortly after, Frazier hung up his gloves. Frazier is remembered for his great left hooks and as one of the greatest heavy weight boxers. Just a day later, Dwight Arrington Myers, better known as Heavy D, passed away. The 44 year old 90’s rapper collapsed outside of his Beverly Hills home in Los Angeles and was rushed to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead shortly after. In his life he was a rapper, actor, record producer, singer, and former leader of Heavy D & the Boyz. We remember these two greats.
